Project consisted of two alternative bridge designs to accommodate six additional railroad sidings for a new ethanol plant. Both alternatives consisted of two structures with precast concrete elements and were let under one contract in order to secure the most cost effective solution. The low bid was the prestressed concrete slab bridge. This alternative included two, four-span, 78’-4 long structures spanning Beaver Creek with widths of 91’-10 and 49’-7. The prestressed slabs were placed on reinforced concrete abutments and piers with steel H -pile.
The alternative design consisted of precast concrete arch culverts. This alternative included two, two span structures with approximately the same overall dimensions. The precast arch culverts were placed on strutted reinforced concrete footings with steel H-pile.
The selected design alternatives incorporated precast elements to help ensure construction of the structures and railroad sidings were completed in time to receive shipments of grain to the new ethanol plant. In addition to hydraulic analysis, structural design and detailing, CB&A provided on-site inspection and resident engineering services during construction.
