This project consisted of a stage–constructed, custom designed 205′ x 72′ CCS replacement bridge with a sidewalk over Walnut Creek. Large traffic volumes of approximately 20,000 vpd required that traffic be maintained continuously through the construction site. Hydraulic design criteria, combined with a custom designed, shallow superstructure, allowed proposed bridge grades to match existing street elevations at this congested urban project site. A retaining wall and provisions for a bike path under the north span also were incorporated into the project. Resident engineering and inspection services were provided during construction.
