This project began with a hydraulic analysis of the Volga River at a predetermined location for a new trail bridge within the City’s corporate limits. The analysis concluded a 160’ x 10’ pre-engineered steel truss bridge, along with earthen fill at the abutments and appropriate channel widening, would satisfy Iowa DNR review criteria.
The plans included provisions for a timber bridge deck and reinforced concrete abutments supported by both timber pile and spread footings. The trail bridge plans were part of a larger recreational trail improvement project designed by TeKippe Engineering. Construction took place in 2008.
