The existing bridge was a 165’ x 20’ pony truss bridge with timber abutments and timber piers which spanned the Chariton River in the upper reaches of Rathbun Lake. The bridge was structurally deficient and did not meet current hydraulic or loading requirements. The project consisted of a custom 254’ x 24’ pretensioned prestressed concrete beam bridge with tee piers and integral abutments, with approximately 800 lineal feet of approach grading.
