The existing bridge was a 167’-6 x 28’ P.P.C.B. bridge with concrete abutments and concrete pedestal piers. The bridge was functionally obsolete for the volume of traffic. The project consisted removing the concrete deck, replacing the P.P.C.B. beams, upgrading the semi-integral abutments to protect the beams and bearings, placement of a new 30’ wide concrete deck, approach pavement to tie into the thicker concrete deck and minor erosion repair under the bridge. An analysis of the existing piers was performed to determine if they were adequate for the increased load from the wider and thicker deck.
